It's never too late to make a new start. One of the most difficult things in life is making that decision to start all over again. There are some delays in life that will actually benefit you in a long run. Majority of us think that there's a set life span of when to achieve things -by attaching a timeline to it. We have a picture of what we want and when we want it in our heads. We want things to move quickly and when things are not going as planned, we get frustrated. Reflecting back, things did not go exactly as I dreamed. There were days I would loose the motivation, but I came to learn a greater lesson that things will not always work out in our own time. There is a destined time for everything in our lives.
Here are 4 tips we have put together to help you on that journey to turn your life around. Even if you are feeling too old to make significant changes in your life, you can still turn your life around, and it's all a matter of making that choice or else things will never change.
1. Appreciate the delay
You might be thinking to yourself, what? but this is the starting point to reassure yourself that some things in your life are moving at the right time. I didn't get my breakthrough in my career till my late 20s, but before then I kept pushing, because the delay in progress helped me realise how much I wanted it. I didn't get married till my early 30s, but I appreciate the delay because if I had gotten married under pressure, who knows what the story would have been today. Appreciating a delay can help you to be more grateful for what you will receive, because you will always remember the odd sweat of starting your dream from scratch, or waiting for that personal breakthrough and as a result you will never take it for granted when it finally happens. I kept practicing and learning, keeping myself motivated & productive during the waiting period, so that when the time come, I was fully prepared to receive. Just because something isn't happening now, doesn't mean it will never happen.
2. Don't linger in your failures
Life doesn't always go as planned. Some of us have ended up in a career that's nothing like we expected. Most of us are trying to fulfill our heart desires but get discouraged by the challenges or obstacles that we are faced with. I want us to remember that no situation is permanent. You may not see it now, but if you continue holding on to faith, and keep taking actions so you can get closer to what it is that you want; with time you will have it. When it happens, you will be thankful for the journey that you have been through. Stop making excuses of where you are. Excuses may help save your pride, but it will do nothing to get you towards your goals. Accept where you have failed, learn from it, and move on forward in a new direction. I have also failed in the past, some situations which could have led to depression but God had always reminded me of the strength he has given me, to able to bounce back and keep it moving.
3. Surround yourself with the right people
We need the right people to help us in some areas in our lives. Don't let pride stop you from receiving the right help, if you really want the change in your life. Surrounding ourselves with the wrong people, knowing fully well that they will contribute anything positive in your life, will only you further away from serving a greater purpose. Be brave to let go of those that weigh you down and stick with the ones who reflect who you want to be. I lost quite a number of friends in the past, and now I have a small circle of friends which I am more grateful for. Surround yourself with people who are going to lift your higher. People who will motive you, inspire you and push you to be the best version of yourself.
4. Start taking action
Sometimes it's possible to feel like you should have started to change your life earlier, like when you were in your twenties. No matter what age you are, you can still improve whatever it is you want to change in your life.
Nobody is going to do the job for you. You need to motivate yourself and start taking action on the goals that you set for yourself. Don't wallow on what you don't have now. If it is a career change you need, it is not too late to start taking the necessary steps, even if it means self-learning to acquire the skills. Choose one habit or anything you want to focus on and change now. Start with small steps and small wins, until you start to begin to build momentum. Avoid procrastinating, thinking that you will do start it tomorrow or the next. The journey begins now.
Don't underestimate the strength that you have within.
